Grow Your Faith Through Obedience

Updated: May 24, 2019

Now [in Haran] the Lord said to Abram, Go for yourself [for your own advantage] away from your country, from your relatives and your father’s house, to the land that I will show you. And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you [with abundant increase of favors] and make your name famous and distinguished, and you will be a blessing [dispensing good to others].  And I will bless those who bless you [who confer prosperity or happiness upon you] and curse him who curses or uses insolent language toward you; in you will all the families and kindred of the earth be blessed [and by you they will bless themselves]. So Abram departed, as the Lord had directed him..." Genesis 12:1-4a AMPC

I heard and obeyed God to go to the city He called me to but in the process of my obedience I ended up homeless, forced to move out, with my account overdrawn, no payday in sight, 1400 miles away from family and friends. This event was TRAUMATIC to my soul.

As a result everyday I was pressured by the enemy to move back to Memphis. Everything I was facing was trying to convince me that I had missed God and it was time to go back. BUT I KNEW I had heard from God to move to Vegas.

Then I was reminded about Mary and how everything she faced looked like to everyone else that she couldn’t have heard from God because if so things wouldn’t have been so hard. If it was truly the Messiah she was carrying wouldn’t she have it good? Life would be comfortable, and easy right? She wouldn’t have had to travel 9 months pregnant to Bethlehem, there would have been room for her at the Inn when she got there, she wouldn’t have gone into labor in a stable, etc. That’s what we’ve been told by religion that when it’s God’s will for you then it’s easy.

So you can guess that I didn’t leave the place where I was sent. My mom gave me some advice. She said “when you are away from your family you ONLY have the people of God (not church folks) to help you, so why don't you share with your small group ladies what is going on with you.” Following her advice, I shook off the shame and pride and took the step towards community and began the journey of transparency with them. The risk of exposing my situation was where my blessing was for me.

There was a blessed woman of God in my small group who was an answer to my prayer and offered her casita for a couple of months until I had a few checks under my belt.

AND SOOOOOO TONIGHT I get to host my first small group in my own home... in Vegas! Exactly a year later (I moved out of the casita February 23, 2018) I now get the privilege to build connections, offer support, and be the family of God for those who need a lifeline, who need to know that they are not alone, forsaken or abandoned.

Well to put it in a nutshell ...who need to know that they are not homeless! #community #family #Jesusfollowers #GodSENTmehere #GodwantstoBLESSmehere #doingLIFEtogether #LOVEhasaNameJesus
